Last month we hosted a Doctor Who themed tea party with a few of our friends. We all had a grand time chatting, enjoying lots of homemade food, and watching The Asylum of the Daleks afterwards.
There aren't a tone of classy styled Doctor Who party ideas out on the internet (at least that I could find), so I thought I'd share what I did and give you all some inspiration. With the Series 8 premiere coming up on August 23rd there's still time to plan some fun stuff for the return of Doctor Who and the beginning of the Twelve Doctor.
The table. I went with a blue and white theme with the decor.
Out of all the decor, the banner would have to be my favorite. I used pages from an old book and painted DW related images with watercolors. I looked up reference images online, but free handed them all. The Cyberman turned out better than I could have imagined!
I made all of the girls bowtie hair clips, since bowties are cool. I used the tutorial from this blog.
For atmosphere we played all of the DW soundtracks on Spotify for free.
It just so happened that some of our rose bushes in the back yard where blooming, which was perfect. You can't have a DW party without a rose for Rose Tyler. And then there were bananas, because you always bring a banana to a party! I also accented the table with white sequins and blue candle holders.
Daniel had made a Lego TARDIS, Dalek, and 9th, 10th, and 11th Doctors which I displayed on the table.
Detail shot of the banner.
All the teacups used are my moms.
Adipose that my sister made out of marshmallows and chocolate.
Macraroni salad with bowtie pasta.
All of the food (minus the bowtie macaroni salad) was gluten and dairy free. We made a gluten-free version of the macaroni salad, banana bread, chicken sandwiches, fruit salad and chocolate covered bananas. Our friends brought fruit kabobs and peanut butter cookies.
And that's it!
Have any of you done anything fun Doctor Who related? And who's excited for Series 8 next month? I know I sure am!
I have not seen any of Dr. Who, but I love your party decorations; so artistic. The food looks perfectly delicious, too!
ReplyDeleteThank you! We all enjoyed the food, especially the chocolate covered bananas!
DeleteHaha, this is Fantastic!!
ReplyDeleteYup! I sure had fun putting it together!
DeleteThis looks awesome! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kristin. We had a fun time!
DeleteLove this!! :D Beautiful job on the banner!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Everyone seems to like the banner as well, as it's still hanging up in our dining room!
DeleteWow! This looks like so much fun! I love all your decoration ideas. My sister and I would love to do something like this, but most of the Whovians we know are guys and may not appreciate a tea party. :) It would be very cool to have a party for the new season premiere...hmmm, definitely something to start thinking about!
ReplyDeleteP.S. We nominated you for a Liebster Award! http://cleverbunnies.blogspot.com/2014/07/glad-all-over.html
